At 4:06 p.m. on March 24, the Japanese Coast Guard announced that a ballistic missile may have been launched from North Korea and "is believed to have fallen about 170 km west of Cape Tatsutobi in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, at about 3:44 p.m." The Japanese Coast Guard said that the missile may have been launched from North Korea. This would be the first time in September 2021 that a missile has fallen within Japan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
